Awards to research's up-and-comings

VET practitioners want research that helps them do their work better. And the following recipients of NCVER’s New Researcher Awards, presented at the 2007 ‘No Frills’ conference, are doing exactly that:

  • Denise Bell, RMIT University: identified ways to improve TAFE’s organisational planning
  • Melanie Bowman, Charles Sturt University: looked at challenges for those working in the airline industry
  • Toni-Maree Pettigrew, Department of Education, Training and the Arts: investigated the use of web conferencing to improve teaching
  • Bronwyn Robinson, RMIT University: considered ways to support casual TAFE teachers
  • Sarah Sutcliffe, Canberra Institute of Technology: explored strategies for switching from paper-based student evaluations to an online survey
  • Ruth Wallace, Charles Darwin University: examined practitioners’ ability to respond to regional students’ perceptions of educational institutions
  • John Ward, Chisholm Institute of TAFE: identified areas of training that impact on student satisfaction

The recipients of these New Researcher Awards have been invited to submit their papers to NCVER for peer review and publication. These will be published in 2008 as occasional papers.

The New Researcher Awards are part of NCVER’s commitment to building research capacity in the VET sector, which is also the focus of a range of practical projects being funded throughout 2008.
