New guide helps explain the Australian VET system
13 August 2007
The Australian vocational education and training (VET) system is complex and diverse. Explaining it to the uninitiated is not always an easy task.
The National Centre for Vocational Education Research (NCVER) is helping to alleviate this by producing Did you know? A guide to vocational education and training in Australia.
"Written to appeal to a wide audience, this is the perfect resource for those with little or no knowledge of the VET system," says NCVER Managing Director, Dr Tom Karmel. "And those who have been in the system for a while might even learn a thing or two!".
The publication provides basic information about the Australian VET system-what it is, why people choose it and who does so, as well as who funds it, how and where it is taught and what qualifications it offers. It also provides a useful list of organisations and information services linked with the VET system.
Developed in consultation with a wide range of stakeholders, NCVER's envisions that the guide will be useful for:
- people interested in understanding Australia's VET system
- international visitors interested or involved in VET
- people from industry
- those who need to explain the system to others, such as policy-makers, VET providers and career counsellors
- those exploring their further study options.
