7 June 2007

Preliminary data from the annual collection of student enrolments in the Australian public vocational education and training system show that 25 200 (or 1.5%) more students enrolled in 2006 than 2005, increasing to 1.68 million students nationally.

Student numbers increased in all states and territories except South Australia, which decreased by 2.8%. The largest increases occurred in Western Australia (5.5% increase) and Tasmania (5.3% increase).

From 2005 to 2006, total subject enrolments increased nationally by 2.7% and total hours of delivery increased by 2.8%.
