To encourage new researchers to present papers at the 17th National Vocational Education and Training Research Conference (No Frills), NCVER is once again offering a number of New Researcher Awards. The awards will cover travel, accommodation and meal expenses for this year's No Frills conference in Launceston, 9-11 July 2008.
To be eligible, new researchers must submit an abstract (max. 200 words) of the paper, a two-page CV and contact details of two referees familiar with their work. For further information about the conference and the New Researcher Awards please visit the NCVER website.
Research messages 2007 is a collection of summaries of all research projects published by the National Centre for Vocational Education Research in 2007, including conference papers and occasional papers. It also has an overview of the research highlights for the year. The summaries are clustered under five broad themes used by NCVER to organise its VET research and analysis: Industry and employers; Students and individuals; Teaching and learning; VET system; and VET in context.

The key messages of 10 forthcoming publications are presented here as part of a suite of work undertaken by a consortium of researchers from the National Institute of Labour Studies at Flinders University and the Centre for Post-compulsory Education and Lifelong Learning at the University of Melbourne. This research program investigated the relationship between Australia's future skill needs and the vocational education and training system.
