This study takes a look at the changes in the extent, pattern and outcomes of participation in firm-based education and training of young Australians during the mid-1980s to the mid-1990s. During this time, there were substantial policy initiatives to lift the quality and quantity of training of Australian workers. The report's findings include: participation of young women has increased; the extent of formal firm-based education and training is substantial but uneven; the education and work profiles of young workers have changed; participation in firm-based education and training has also changed; and participants in training, in particular, in-plant training, have received higher hourly wages.
