Total VET students and courses

NCVER Collection

Introduction

Total VET students and courses reports on students who undertook nationally recognised VET on a government funded or fee-for-service basis. Nationally recognised training are listed on the National Register of Vocational Education and Training (training.gov.au) and includes:

  • nationally recognised programs that are associated with one or more clusters of subjects. These include; training package qualifications and skill sets, accredited qualifications, and accredited courses that lead to a statement of attainment
  • nationally recognised subjects delivered stand-alone or as part of a non-nationally recognised program
  • nationally recognised VET delivered by Australian RTOs to students in both onshore (Australia) and offshore locations.

Excluded from scope is non-nationally recognised training which is not listed on training.gov.au and includes:

  • locally developed programs and skill sets constructed by training providers, industry, enterprise, community education or professional bodies to meet an identified training need
  • non-accredited subjects.

Non-registered training providers are also excluded from scope.

The data for Total VET students and courses are sourced from both the National VET Provider Collection and National VET in Schools Collection and are compiled under the Australian Vocational Education and Training Management Information Statistical Standard, release 8.0 (AVETMISS).
