Please note this is a 'beta version' of the Atlas, as it is still being developed and tested. Therefore, until the final version is released, caution should be exercised when using data contained within the Atlas. Due to a slight change in methodology in assigning Statistical Divisions to data, some previously released data may have changed.
The Atlas of Australian public VET presents a snapshot of various vocational education and training data for all parts of Australia. The Atlas presents data from NCVER's Students and courses collection and Apprentices and trainees collection, together with a small amount of population data sourced from the Australian Bureau of Statistics. Data is presented at three levels:
National level data
State/territory level data
Statistical division data.
The data is presented in a selection of maps and tables at the national and state/territory levels, and in tables for the statistical divisions.
The Atlas of Australian public VET is a dynamic resource. New tables, maps and graphs will be added as they become available.
The basic geographical unit in the Atlas of Australian public VET is the statistical division. NCVER data is converted from postcode regions to statistical local areas (SLA) using a postcode-statistical local area concordance (ABS catalogue number 2905.0.55.001) and then amalgamated up to statistical division level.
To enable comparison of data across years, the Atlas has adopted ASGC 2006 geographical units for all years and not just from 2006 onwards, when the new standard was introduced.
Full details of the Australian Bureau of Statistics' Australian Standard Geographical Classification (ASGC) 2006 (catalogue number 1216.0) can be found at the ABS website (http://www.abs.gov.au).
Content in the Atlas can be accessed by using either the navigation maps or the menu on the right hand side of each page.
