Employers' use and views of the VET system: Summary 2005 Glossary of terms Apprentice or trainee: a student who has signed a formal agreement with an employer, known as either a training agreement or contract of training. Includes government-supported structured work and training programs in which the employer is obliged to provide training, supervision and support; and the apprentice or trainee is obliged to undertake paid work as well as do the training. Employer: for the purposes of this survey and publication, an employer is a type of activity unit operating within Australia with at least one employee. Type of activity unit: as defined by the Australian Bureau of Statistics, a unit is comprised of one or more business entities, sub-entities or branches of a business entity that can report production and employment activities.The primary criterion is that the activity of the unit be homogeneous. Unaccredited training: training that does not lead to a nationally recognised qualification.The training activity must have a specified content or predetermined plan designed to develop employment-related skills and competencies. Vocational qualification: a qualification that is nationally recognised.These qualifications are delivered by registered training organisations such as TAFE institutes, private providers and vocational divisions of universities. |
