Australian vocational education and training statistics: Student outcomes 2007 - Summary

This publication presents information about the outcomes for students who completed their vocational education and training (VET) during 2006. The findings relate to students who were awarded a qualification (graduates), or who successfully completed part of a course and then left the VET system (module completers).

This publication reports on outcomes of students from technical and further education (TAFE) institutes, other government providers or community education providers. This includes students funded by the Commonwealth and states, as well as those training on a fee-for-service basis. It also reports on outcomes of students from private providers, including those funded by the Commonwealth and states.

Employment

  • 81.1% of all graduates and 74.3% of all module completers were employed after they completed their training.

  • 12.8% of all graduates and 7.6% of all module completers were not employed before their training but were employed after. These proportions represent 49.5% of those graduates and 29.0% of those module completers who were not in employment before their training.

  • 17.8% of all graduates and 15.4% of all module completers were employed in their first full-time job after their training.

Relevance to employment

  • 75.2% of graduates and 61.3% of module completers employed after training said that their training was highly or somewhat relevant to their current job.

  • 71.4% of graduates and 53.3% of module completers employed after training received at least one job-related benefit from their training, such as getting a job or promotion.

Further study

  • 30.8% of all graduates were enrolled in further study after their training.

  • 89.2% of all graduates were employed or in further study after their training.

Satisfaction

  • 88.8% of all graduates and 83.8% of all module completers were satisfied with the overall quality of their training.

  • 86.7% of graduates and 80.4% of module completers fully or partly achieved their main reason for doing the training.
