This publication provides a summary of 2007 data relating to students, courses, qualifications, training providers and funding in Australia’s publicly funded vocational education and training (VET) system.
- There were 1.67 million students enrolled in the public VET system in 2007.
- Compared with 2006, in 2007:
- the number of students enrolled declined by 0.7%
- subject enrolments increased by 2.6%.
- Around one in nine people aged 15 to 64 years participated in the publicly funded VET system in Australia in 2007.
- Compared with 2006, in 2007:
- Indigenous students increased by 4.5%
- students from non-English speaking backgrounds increased by 5.1%
- apprentices and trainees undertaking off-the-job training increased
by 4.3%
- overseas full-fee paying students increased by 9.7 thousand students to 34.4 thousand students.
- Students in the VET system comprised:
- 43.2% aged 24 years and under
- 52.1% males
- 88.1% studying part-time.
- Management and commerce was the most common field of education followed by Engineering and related technologies (20.3% and 16.7% respectively).
