* determine the variety of current and future PD needs of three sectors of the LLN workforce: specialist providers of accredited LLN tuition; vocational trainers who are incorporating LLN into their delivery of Training Packages; volunteer workers in community settings
* explore various methods for meeting the current and future needs of the three sectors
Data in this study will be gathered from the following four Australian states: Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria and South Australia. Data will be gathered using (a) electronic surveys, which can be completed and returned by e-mail, to obtain a large sample of quantitative data - 300 such surveys will be sent out with an anticipated return of 100-150 surveys; (b) 36 targeted telephone interviews, to obtain qualitative data; (c) three cross-state focus group teleconferences (eight participants at each), to obtain more detailed information from each of the three sectors of the LLN workforce under consideration; (d) one face-to-face cross-state and cross-sectoral focus group (12 participants plus research team).
Access and General Education Curriculum Centre is a recognised leader in access and general education in vocational education and training in Australia, specialising in coordinating curriculum and training strategies in response to national training policies. We design and produce professional development programs and print and multimedia resources, develop strategies to help disadvantaged people to access vocational education, and consult and build networks with industry and community groups.
