Purpose

The project is a major contribution to the UNESCO publication 'The international handbook of TVET' to be published by Springer Academic publishing in late 2006. Over 200 authors worldwide are currently working on this project. The Handbook will initially be published in English as a paper copy and also become available on CD-ROM. The purpose of the Handbook is to review developments that have helped improve TVET. It reflects on best and innovative practice and uses case studies.

Approach

Synthesis-based desk research

Research questions

NCVER was commissioned to write five (5) chapters, some reflecting an international and others an Australian perspective. These include:

* Definitions of International TVET Terms (Miriam Saunders and staff of NCVER Information Services)

* Modularisation and Modular Delivery of TVET (John Stanwick and Phil Loveder)

* What are the Limits of ICT and Media in Delivery of TVET: An Australian Focus (Peter Kearns)

* The VOCED international TVET research database (Miriam Saunders)

* Teachers, Instructors and Trainers: An Australian Focus (Erica Smith)

Methodology

Each of the five (5) chapters required an informed synthesis of present knowledge in the particular field. The chapters were written in a format that would be accessible to both technical and non-technical education readers.

Organisations

This project has been funded under the NCVER Core-research program with valuable assistance provided by Erica Smith of Charles Sturt University and Peter Kearns of Global Learning Services.
