Project approach

Qualitative and quantitative

Project purpose

This at-a-glance publication will look at student transfers from VET to higher education (called upward transfer), against transfers from university to VET (referred to as reverse transfer).

Research questions

A growing demand for higher skill levels in the labour force in an ageing population suggests that re-skilling, and therefore transfers, should be encouraged. Several mechanisms facilitate transfer, but there are barriers to successful transfer. These are explored in this publication.

Methodology

This study will firstly look at the policy context in which educational transfers are occurring and will comment on the overall magnitude of inter-sectoral transfers by such factors as field of study and life stage.

It will also discuss mechanisms for enabling (or barriers to) successful transfer, including RPL and articulation. It will also provide some examples of successful arrangements between institutions.

The organisation/s

This project has been funded under the NCVER NVETRE dissemination program.
