Latest apprentice and trainee figures released

The latest release of apprentice and trainee data show there were 275 200 apprentices and trainees in-training as at 31 March 2017, a decrease of 3.7% from 31 March 2016.

The data, published by the National Centre for Vocational Education Research (NCVER), provides a picture of apprenticeship and traineeship activity nationally and by state and territory.

Overall 56 200 people started apprenticeships and traineeships in the March 2017 quarter, which is similar to the numbers recorded in the March 2016 quarter.

There was a slight decline in trade commencements, down 1% to 27 700, while non-trade commencements increased by 0.8% to 28 500 compared with the same period last year.
