New data estimate that 49.4% of all government-funded vocational education and training (VET) programs started in 2015 will be completed, up from 44.7% for programs started in 2014, according to the National Centre for Vocational Education Research (NCVER).

Data in VET program completion rates 2011—15 use statistical techniques to estimate completion rates for VET programs funded by Commonwealth and state/territory governments.

“Estimated completion rates vary greatly by qualification level, ranging from 29.9% for programs at certificate I to 56.8% for diplomas and above”, said Dr Mette Creaser, National Manager Statistics and Analytics, NCVER.

By field of education, estimated completion rates for programs started in 2015 were highest in natural and physical sciences (63.4%), society and culture (59.6%) and health (58.8%).

The estimated completion rate for young students (aged 25 years and under) in full-time study with no prior post-school qualification, was 58.3%, an increase of 3.4 percentage points for programs started in 2014.
