Language identifier

By NCVER Statistical standard 10 June 2008 Revised: 14 September 2012

Description

This classification is made available in electronic format to assist those organisations providing data compliant with AVETMISS. The language classification is used to uniquely identify the main language, other than English spoken at home by the client. For VET Providers and Apprentices and trainees, the language classification is based on the Australian Bureau of Statistics, Australian Standard Classification of Languages (ASCL) ABS Catalogue No. 1267.0, 2016. The language coding index has been developed to assist in the use and implementation of the language classification. It contains a comprehensive list of the most probable responses to the question about Language (spoken at home).
