Finding out future skill needs: employer survey

Whether you employ butchers, bakers or candlestick makers, chances are that you will turn to the nation’s training system to provide you with skilled workers.

To identify strategies employers use to meet their skill needs, the Survey of Australian Employers will get underway this month.

The survey, managed by the National Centre for Vocational Education Research (NCVER), will see 7 500 employers interviewed this year.

Ms Sandra Pattison, General Manager, Statistics, NCVER said the survey provides employers with an opportunity to have their say on improving the training system.

“I encourage every employer who is contacted to take part in the survey as it is important that the results represent all organisations, not just those providing training,” Ms Pattison said.

“We want to know how Australian organisations employ and train their staff and how effective this training is at meeting their needs.”

Businesses are randomly selected to participate and will be contacted from February to June this year.

The Survey of Australian Employers is conducted on behalf of the Australian, state and territory governments. The results will be published on the NCVER website in late 2011 in Australian vocational education and training statistics: Employers’ use and views of the VET system.

Results from the last survey (2009) are available from www.ncver.edu.au/publications/2188.html
