Measuring performance in VET: Dials, Tin Openers and Crystal Balls

John King, Managing Director at NCVER writes that the VET sector has shifted from an ‘Age of Markets,’ focused on compliance and past performance, to an ‘Age of Stewardship,’ where governments, providers, students, and communities work together to shape outcomes. NCVER is leading efforts to improve evidence by combining performance monitoring (“dials”), diagnostic tools (“tin openers”), and predictive analytics (“crystal balls”), while also fostering an ecosystem of qualitative and quantitative insights to better understand, anticipate, and enhance learner outcomes.
