The National Centre for Vocational Education Research (NCVER) has released estimated national completion rates data based on enrolments in publicly funded training throughout 2007.

Nationally, 27.2% of all VET students enrolled in that year are expected to complete their training, the same number estimated for students who enrolled in 2005. For young people (those aged up to 25 years), the national estimated completion rate increases to 35.6%.

Of all VET students who are expected to complete their training, students enrolled in diploma level (32.6%) and certificate III level (32.5%) qualifications show they are more likely to complete their studies than those completing other vocational qualifications.

However, young people studying full-time at a certificate III level qualification are the most likely to finish their training, with an estimated completion rate of 42%.

The field of study a student chooses also seems to play a role, with completion rates highest in education (45.6%) and health (41.7%).

These latest statistics are for the whole of publicly funded VET, which includes those students studying as part of their apprenticeship or traineeship. Completion rates for apprentices and trainees are also released separately by NCVER.

NCVER will release data on completion rates each year, with the next release due later this year in July.
