International skills expert, Professor David Finegold, will give insights into the rapidly growing education and training markets of China and India and what this means for Australian training providers and industries tomorrow at the 21st National Vocational Education and Training Research Conference.

Co-hosted by the National Centre for Vocational Education Research (NCVER) and TAFE SA, the conference brings together researchers, trainers, and policy-makers with the aim of strengthening evidence-based research.

Professor Finegold, Senior Vice President for Lifelong Learning and Strategic Growth at Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey points out that China and India combined have over 35% of the global workforce. In response to global companies’ demand for labour, each country’s skills development systems are undergoing dramatic change.

“Better understanding of China’s and India’s skills development systems is crucial for Australian VET and higher and education providers. We’re therefore delighted that Professor Finegold will be sharing his insights at year’s 21st anniversary conference”, said Dr Tom Karmel, Managing Director, NCVER.

“We know that almost 46 000 Chinese studied offshore with an Australian TAFE provider in 2010 and possibly thousands more with Australian private providers, so Professor Finegold’s presentation will be of great interest to many”.

Professor Finegold will deliver his keynote presentation Developing the skills of the 21st century workforce: the evolving education and training systems of China and India tomorrow at 11.15am.

The 21st National Vocational Education and Training Research Conference runs from today until Friday at the TAFE SA Adelaide College of the Arts and TAFE SA Adelaide Campus. For further information and to download a program, please visit www.nofrills.ncver.edu.au
