Leading vocational education and training (VET) researchers from across Australia and New Zealand head to Rockhampton this week to discuss equity, engagement and the evolution of VET at the 25th National Vocational Education and Training Research Conference ‘No Frills’.

Co-hosted by the National Centre for Vocational Education Research (NCVER) and CQUniversity the conference brings together researchers, policy makers, industry and training providers.

“Our annual conference engages the sector with the latest research and insights in education and training. Over the next two days, we’ll be covering topics as varied as digital teaching and learning practices, student choice and pathways, the structure of the sector, Indigenous education and skills development” said Dr Craig Fowler, Managing Director, NCVER.

“As a truly comprehensive university, CQUniversity is very proud to be hosting this year’s NCVER conference. We have come so far since merging with Central Queensland Institute of TAFE in 2014; it will be a great opportunity to engage with our colleagues on these important issues throughout the conference” said Professor Scott Bowman, Vice-Chancellor, CQUniversity.

The official conference program begins on Tuesday 5 July with Professor Scott Bowman welcoming delegates to the university. This will be followed by an opening keynote address by Linda Brown, CEO, Laureate Australia and New Zealand. Linda will explore the commonalities between the challenges facing VET in Australia, and the issues that our peer nations are encountering while seeking to effectively provide, fund and govern outcomes-focused vocational training.

Other highlights include a second keynote address on Wednesday 6 July by Jodi Schmidt, CEO, TAFE Queensland. Jodi will launch the report The VET Era – Equipping Australia’s workforce for the future digital economy. The report, commissioned by TAFE Queensland from the CSIRO, clearly positions vocational education and training to be at the forefront of strategies to deliver the skills needed in tomorrow’s economy.

The 25th National Vocational Education and Training Research Conference ‘No Frills’ is at CQUniversity, Rockhampton North campus, Queensland. Conference presentations will run from 5 – 6 July 2016.
