‘No Frills’, Australia’s well-known annual research conference focusing on the vocational education and training (VET) sector, today announced its full program and line-up of keynote speakers for the 2018 event.

Leading researchers and VET practitioners from across the globe will come together in Sydney from 15-17 August to explore the theme ‘Skills for a global future: working and learning together’.

The event is going international in more than just theme for the first time this year, with partners the Industry Training Federation and Ako Aotearoa travelling from New Zealand to co-host the event with Australia’s National Centre for Vocational Education Research (NCVER).

“By partnering with New Zealand, this year's conference will provide an excellent opportunity to highlight international evidence for benchmarking policy best practice in the VET sector,” said Dr Craig Fowler, Managing Director, NCVER.

“We’re thrilled to have secured Professor Lene Tanggaard from the University of Aalborg, Denmark, to give a keynote presentation on creativity in VET, which will be a necessary competency for future workers in light of Industry 4.0.”

Professor Tangaard, co-Director of The International Centre for the Cultural Psychology of Creativity, has presented at VET conferences located across the globe, including Oxford UK, Switzerland, Japan and the USA.

The official conference program will begin on Thursday 16 August with Professor Tangaard's keynote, followed on Friday 17 August with addresses by The Hon Karen Andrews MP, the Australian Government Assistant Minister for Vocational Education and Skills, and leading Australian economist Dr Andrew Charlton, who will speak on future economic considerations for the VET sector.

Josh Williams, Chief Executive of New Zealand’s Industry Training Federation, said they’re delighted to be a core partner for ‘No Frills’ 2018.

“This will be a unique opportunity for vocational practitioners and researchers to focus on the global opportunities and challenges facing all skills systems,” he said.

“The quality and breadth of abstracts was outstanding, and add up to an unmissable event that we are sure will have something to interest everyone."
