This report examines key factors in the resourcing and efficacy of training for South Australian Country Fire Service volunteers. Volunteers use skills gained through formal and informal vocational education in the public safety sector in other parts of their working life and greater recognition of this process is warranted.
The nature of apprenticeships is changing. Uptake of recognition of prior learning and the impacts of the earlier completion confirms there is considerable demand for alternative pathways into a trade.
