Australia's national VET data custodian

VET Teacher, Trainer and Assessor (TTA) Survey: privacy notice

About the survey

Why the VET Teacher, Trainer and Assessor Survey is conducted

The VET Teacher, Trainer and Assessor Survey will produce national statistical reports and other approved outputs describing Australia's VET teacher, trainer and assessor workforce.

The VET Teacher, Trainer and Assessor Survey addresses an evidence gap in national information about Australia's VET teaching and training workforce. The findings will support workforce planning, identification of workforce shortages and emerging issues, and policies relating to attraction, retention and professional development of the VET workforce.

Who is eligible to participate in the VET Teacher, Trainer and Assessor Survey

This survey is targeted to those who undertook and completed a Training and Assessment program (TAE) between 2016 and 2025. This may range from qualifications such as the Certificate IV in Training and Assessment and Diploma of Training Design and Development, to shorter more specific programs like the Assessor Skill Set, or Enterprise Trainer-Presenting Skill Set.

Who funds, conducts and manages the VET Teacher, Trainer and Assessor Survey

NCVER and The Social Research Centre (SRC) are undertaking this project on behalf of Jobs and Skills Australia (JSA). Jobs and Skills Australia is an independent statutory body within the Department of Employment and Workplace Relations’ portfolio responsible for workforce, labour-market and skills analysis, and advice.

The administration of the VET Teacher, Trainer and Assessor Survey forms a key component of Phase 2 of Jobs and Skills Australia’s VET Workforce Data Dashboard Project, with the findings providing a robust evidence base to inform policy and decision-making across the VET sector.

The information collected

What information is collected?

Your name and contact details are provided to SRC via a secure file exchange portal by the Office of the Student Identifiers Registrar (OSIR) or by NCVER. This personal information may include your:

  • name
  • contact details
  • age
  • date of birth
  • training program and training provider details.

Other information collected through the survey relates to your work as a VET teacher, trainer and/or assessor.

Responses to the survey will be linked with personal and training data provided by the training provider with whom you completed your TAE program. This may include sensitive information from your enrolment form. This allows the questionnaire to be shortened as we do not need to ask specific details about you or your training.

Where your information is held

For the duration of the data collection, SRC stores all personal information and survey responses on secure servers located within Australia.

After SRC provides your information to NCVER, NCVER stores the data within Australia with appropriate levels of security.
