Australia's national VET data custodian

VET Teacher, Trainer and Assessor (TTA) Survey

About the survey

The VET Teacher, Trainer and Assessor (TTA) Survey will help to build a clearer picture of Australia's VET workforce. The results will help identify shortages and future needs, and inform initiatives to attract, support and retain a strong VET labour force.

The TTA survey is a joint effort lead by Jobs and Skills Australia (JSA), in collaboration with NCVER and the Social Research Centre (SRC) and is seeking the views of over 175,000 graduates of training and education (TAE) programs since 2016.

VET practitioners selected will be invited to participate in the TTA survey online or by telephone interview from October 12th 2026.

Frequently asked questions (FAQs)

What is the VET Teacher, Trainer and Assessor (TTA) Survey?

The VET Teacher, Trainer and Assessor (TTA) Survey is being conducted to build a better understanding of Australia’s VET workforce. It will collect information about VET practitioners, their qualifications, career pathways, work experiences and future plans.

Jobs and Skills Australia have commissioned the TTA survey, with NCVER and the Social Research Centre managing the data collection and supporting participants. Around 175,000 people who completed a relevant training and education (TAE) qualification or skill set between 2016 and 2025 will be invited to take part.

What is the purpose of the survey?

The VET Teacher, Trainer and Assessor Survey will provide a national picture of Australia’s VET workforce and valuable insights that are not available from existing data collections.

The survey findings will help:

  • Build a clearer picture of Australia's VET workforce.
  •  Improve understanding of potential workforce pressures, shortages and emerging challenges.
  • Improve workforce planning and national reporting.
  • Support initiatives to attract, retain and develop VET teachers, trainers and assessors.

What are the benefits of participating in the survey?

Your feedback can help shape professional development opportunities, improve support for teachers, trainers and assessors, and create clearer career pathways for those entering the field.

The findings will help inform decisions to improve working conditions across the VET sector, including identifying and addressing staff and resourcing shortages.

  • Job satisfaction and wellbeing (e.g. areas of fulfilment, challenges, self-efficacy in teaching)
